SHARIE HUNTER’s unique style & artsy home

If you ask anyone around the city “Do you know that woman with bold glasses?” they will definitely guess who are you talking about. Leading the creative company Arthur/Hunter as a Principal and a Managing Partner, Sharie Hunter shares a part of her busy life with her passion for painting and collecting art in every form. The Hunters’ exquisite place is more than a home, it is a perfect reflection of their eclectic tastes both in fashion and interior design – a rare collection of books, paintings, old prairie photography, vintage sculptures and collectible mid-century furniture. Every corner is personalized and you can enjoy Sharie telling you the story of every single decor item she and her husband Patrick found for the place they call home.

Sharie Hunter style

On her personal style. My wardrobe tends to be monochromatic with bold glasses and statement lipstick, bag & coat.DSC05264

On wearing black and white most of the time. As a designer, I live in a world of color, therefore, it’s important to me that my wardrobe is calm. I love the clean & elegant look of blacks, greys and creams. These colours are classic and timeless.DSC05656

On her style statements. Less is more. Have a key piece, such as a bag or coat and build around that.DSC05471

On design, art & fashion. I believe all three are intertwined. They elevate the spirit and allow a glimpse into the mind of the artist or designer.

On her home interior. Our home is a very personal reflection of our lives. It’s a collection of turn-of-the-century antiques taken from my family farm mixed with mid-century modern. We have pieces from George Nelson, Isamu Noguchi, Le Corbusier & Eames mixed with etchings we’ve found while traveling, literature, art, and unique objects. We try and only have things in our lives that either tell a story or have personal meaning.DSC04909

On how her work interactions influence her style. As Principal, Managing Partner of Arthur/Hunter, a Calgary based design agency, I have the liberty to dress a little more creatively than many of my corporate friends. With that said, I keep my wardrobe classic only adding flare with my glasses, lipstick, and accent pieces. I believe it’s important to be yourself but also dress appropriately.DSC05619

On shopping. I like to buy unique style pieces when I travel. Locally, I enjoy Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom, Burberry, and Zara.DSC05395

On her favorite items. I love the Louis Vuitton Marly Bag my husband brought back from Dubai for me. I have a collection of Burberry coats – the tailoring is incredible, a pair of Prada boots I picked up in New York and a McQueen clutch I also found in New York.DSC05023

On what inspires her style most. As a visual person, I’m inspired by everything. I love architecture, travel, literature, art, design, film. I’m also inspired by fashion icons like Carine Roitfeld and Giovanna Battaglia.

I believe life is defined by both truth and beauty. I try and see both in everything and everyone.
