A personal stylist’s 5 minute JEWELRY BOX edit guide

As a personal stylist, I have seen hundreds of closets, and let me tell you, the jewelry box is the biggest culprit of any wardrobe. It’s a hidden and ignored corner often taken over by clutter and mess: old costume jewelry mixed with good pieces you can’t see. What happens when you have an unorganized jewelry box?

You think that you can’t accessorize. And that is incorrect. In fact, what happens is easily explained by anatomy. Our brains like order, and constant visual reminders of disorganization drain our cognitive resources, reducing our ability to focus and get creative. In other words, when you look at a messy jewelry box every morning, your brain suggests avoiding it.

Here is an easy way to declutter and organize your jewelry box in less than 5 minutes:

Remove these things:

Tarnished metallic jewelry
Cheap costume jewelry
Boho wooden earrings
Single unmatched earrings
Flashy Neon studs

Keep these things:

Classic hoops
Contemporary architectural pieces
Box chain bracelets
Vintage rings
Basic studs
